Finding the best home based business is not always an easy process, but it is important to give this
decision the care it so richly deserves. Starting your own business can be your key to financial freedom and
independence, if the business you choose is a match for your skills.

It is important to choose a home based business that makes the most of your skills. It is also important to
look for a business model that can be easily marketed, and one that has a good appeal to the general public.

The Best Approach To Starting A Home Based Business

There are a number of ways to approach the world of home based businesses, and it is important for every
would be entrepreneur to carefully consider the advantages and disadvantages of each approach.

One approach to finding the best home based business is to look for a repeatable model, such as a
franchise opportunity. As the internet has grown up, a number of franchised internet businesses have sprung
up, and many of these businesses are home based opportunities.

The Internet Franchise Advantage

The internet franchises can have the same advantages as do franchises in the brick and mortar world,
including a proven business model, the ability to consult with experienced business people and the ability to
review the details of the plan with existing and former franchisees.

The Internet Franchise Disadvantage

There are of course a number of disadvantages to the franchise approach to finding the best home based
business, including higher costs of entry, high franchise fees and the need to buy supplies from a single
source, often at higher cost.

The Independent Approach Advantages And Disadvantages

The independent approach to opening a home based business has its own advantages and disadvantages
as well. On the plus side the best home based businesses can often be started at low cost, sometimes with
little more than a website and a home computer.

On the other hand it can be difficult to get help when running such a business, so it is important for those
independent entrepreneurs to look for a business that matches their own skill set and passions.

Many people say that they want a home based business. They say it, but have no idea what having a home
based business is all about. In many cases they think it involves sitting around in their underwear all day
waiting for the "home based business fairy" to come and deliver money to them under their pillow. This is
quite obviously not the case. A home based business is just like any other business except for the fact that
it's run out of your home rather than some office building.

Although many people want to make it seem as if they're different, they're not and you need to be aware of this
fact before you pursue a home based business. The only difference between a 'home based business' and a
'business' is the name. There are a few things that you must know no matter what kind of "opportunity" you
may be dealing with.

1) You must be able to reach people that are interested in what you're doing. Call them customers, clients,
prospects, leads, hell call them footballs, the point is you must be able to reach people who are interested in
what you're doing.

2) Once you reach them, you're going to have to begin a dialogue with them. You can do this with the phone,
email, snail mail, billboards, articles, television, or a freakin' airplane, the point is you must start a dialogue
with these people.

3) You're going to have to "sell" them on your idea. I know that the word "sell" can be more frightening than a
mother grizzly running at you through the brush while you're holding a cute little cub in your arms, but you're
going to have to do it. This can be accomplished by you personally or someone else who has more
experience, but the customer is going to have to be "sold" if you're going to make it.

The three things mentioned above are an absolute must for any business, whether it be based out of the
home or based out of a twenty story office building. There are many other aspects involved as well, but these
three are integral. You can worry about the other aspects as you get more experience, the point is if you're
exploring a home business opportunity and it doesn't seem to involve the three things mentioned in this
article, you should be skeptical. There are a lot of people making a lot of unbelievable claims out there
(especially on the internet) and you should be aware of this fact. Any time something sounds too good to be
true or promises something for nothing….follow your instincts!

The bottom line is that you can do very well with your own home based business; I just want you to be aware
of some of what's involved. Keep in mind what Henry Ford said, "Obstacles are those frightful things you see
when you take your eyes off your goal." So keep your eyes on your goals and try your best not to fall for all the
hype. Have fun and good luck.

Year after year, we hear about people making all kinds of New Year's resolutions. Some of the more
common ones are to lose weight, quit smoking, or not watch as much TV. Have you made resolutions before
that didn't really amount to much? I think we all have. I like to put it in a more positive light. What do I want to
do instead of not do?

If you've thought about starting a home business for a long time, and for one reason or another have not done
it, consider making it your New Year's resolution this year. Before the new year, prepare yourself. Make a list
of the obstacles to starting a business. Some of these might be lack of money to invest, lack of time (too
many things to do already), you don't know what kind of business to start, lack of confidence that you can
actually do it. Then go through each item on your list, and search out a way to overcome it.

If lack of money to invest is an issue, research home businesses you can start without a big start up cost.
Also, how about telecommuting jobs? Normally, all you pay with those is a membership fee to have access
to the listing of jobs. It's a good way to bring in some money to keep you going while you are starting up a
business.

Feel like you already have too many things on your plate? Take a good, hard look at what you spend your time
on. What things can go? If you have older kids, can they do some of those tasks for you? If starting your own
home business is a real priority, there is always a way to make it work.

Maybe you have no idea what kind of business to start. Research home business sites where you can find a
lot of ideas, and see which ones sound like they might fit your lifestyle and schedule. There are so many
good ideas out there to incorporate into a business.

Do you question your ability to really get a business going and make it work? Seek out a mentor - someone
who can help you get up and running, then offers advice along the way. There are some good networks out
there, where you can glean from other's experiences and ideas. Join forces with someone who has been at
this longer than you, and is willing to help you on your journey. Lack of confidence can merely be due to lack
of experience, and finding someone to walk with you through the process can alleviate much of your concern.

Is this going to be the year to take the plunge and actually start that home business you've dreamed about?
Or will you still be thinking about it next year at this time? I hope you will decide to join the home business
work force, and be blessed by it.
